Jack was a member of West Leeds Railway club where he captained his team for many years which won the Leeds City Championship in the 80's.

05 Apr 2021**MARK BALL - CONGRATULATIONS!**

Congratulations are in order for our own Mark Ball, recently appointed on to the Board of Directors of the EPSB (English Partnership for Snooker & Billiards).
Set up in 2019, the EPSB is an 'umbrella' organisation and governing body, not only for Snooker & Billiards nationwide, but also with associations at European and World level, from both an amateur and professional perspective.
I am sure you will all join me in wishing Mark all the best in his new role.
I am sure he will be a tremendous asset to the EPSB. His appointment is well deserved.
GOOD LUCK MARK!
Bob Patterson - LBSO Gen. Sec / Treasurer.

17 Mar 2021***RIP - JERRY BIRD***

It is with sadness, we have to inform you of the recent death of Jerry Bird, a very long standing playing member of the LBSO and the Leeds & District League before that.
Jerry sadly passed away on the 12th March from natural causes aged 90 years.
For the very many who knew him, he will be remembered as a larger than life character, who could certainly handle a cue and until fairly recently as well.
Jerry played snooker for over 50 years in the Leeds Leagues, and his true ability is without a doubt best reflected, with him lifting the Leeds Snooker Championship three times, during an era prior to the LBSO, but when competition in the City was just as fierce as it is now.
Jerry's family are keen for his snooker legacy in Leeds to be continued by the LBSO, and we are discussing the best way forward with this currently.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with Jerry's family and friends at this difficult time.
On behalf of the LBSO.

23 Dec 2020**SEASONS GREETINGS**

On behalf of all the LBSO committee i would like to wish everyone associated with the LBSO a safe and very merry Christmas as we all know it will not be our usual festivities but please try to enjoy what we are allowed to do within the restrictions we are all under.

I hope you all have a happy new year and that soon we will be able to resume our snooker that we have all missed so much throughout 2020.

Best regards,
Paul Grimes LBSO league secretary.

12 Nov 2020**CANCELLATION OF THE 2020/21 SEASON**

To all involved with the LBSO it is with regret that the committee have come to the decision we will not be able to run the 2020/21 season. This is obviously due to grass roots sports having ceased due to the restrictions imposed in the COVID 19 pandemic.

We have delayed the announcement as long as we could but in light of the imposition of the second lockdown we are now past the cut off point for when we felt we could successfully run the delayed season.

We are already in receipt of the majority of entrance fees that have been paid for the season, thank you to all clubs that have paid or had previously committed to pay.

With regard the combined league and competition fees already paid for 2020/21 season, it is the agreed opinion of the committee these should be retained and simply carry over to the 2021/22 season, which will hopefully commence on time.

Bob Patterson as Treasurer will post more details about this and other options , and be in contact with captains separately in the next few days, which will also include instructions to those teams that have yet to pay.
(An email has been circulated to team captains on Sunday 15th November)

We are planning that in the new year we can complete the outstanding competitions and if time allows we are hopeful we can restart competitions on a pay as you enter basis to keep snooker alive in the Leeds area until we arrive at a time to resume league snooker.

If you have any queries regarding the league please contact me Paul Grimes. Any competition issues should be directed to Mark Ball or Paul Marlow and any financial issues to Bob Patterson. Contact details can be found on the website please direct your questions to the relevant persons.

From all of the committee we hope you continue to stay safe and well and we look forward to seeing you all in due course.

Paul Grimes LBSO League secretary.

14 Oct 2020**MARTIN BOOTH - RIP**

It is with great sadness, I have to inform you all of the death of Martin Booth.
Martin was a long established player at Rothwell WMC for at least the last 35 years.
His massive dedication to this South Leeds club extended beyond playing, also being a member of the committee for many years.
Martin died yesterday morning after a short illness.
All our best wishes are sent to his family at this very difficult time.
Bob Patterson.

A final decision on the 2020/2021 season - league and competitions, will be made and posted on the website in due course.
