Tonight saw this years Leeds U16 final at the Northern Snooker Centre between James Pears and Vladislav Gradinari. In frame one Vlad was first to settle and a 36 break gave him an early lead. James got himself back in it with a visit of 22 but a miss on the last red saw Vlad take red, brown, yellow, green, brown and blue to leave James 26 behind on the pink. James battled hard and managed to get one of the snookers he needed but Vlad eventually potted pink to take the frame 68-43.
The second frame turned on one shot, James potted black and went into the pack of reds but unluckily knocked a red into the corner pocket. Vlad stepped up and a 48 break effectively game him the frame -75-15- and the match 2-0.
James is in action again in the U18 final next Monday (28th) against Samuel Lee Stevens when he will be hoping for better luck.
Thanks to Andy Kitson for officiating and to the NSC for use of the facilities.
