Middleton Cons defeated Harehills Labour 5-4 in tonight's Windsor Trophy final.

The first 4 frames were split, Middleton's Richard Aspin (31) defeating Lee Hart (22) 69-49, 92-64, and Harehill's Paul Mawson (14) beating Darren Binns (23) 85-57, 61-56.

The second set of matches both went 1-1, Graham Marsden (9) 56-51, 46-66 against Adam Rennison (-1) and Mark Aspin (18) 72-45, 66-77 against Steve Parlour (10).

In the deciding frame Graham Marsden had an early 33 break against Adam Rennison to give himself a healthy lead which he never relinquished, ensuring Middleton took the title 5-4.

Lee Brookes defeated Steven Hirst 3-1 in tonight's Sykes Cup final.
The first 2 frames were close but both went to Brookes on the pink, 76-68, 84-65.
The third frame was more one sided and went to Hirst 84-21.
In the fourth frame a 29 break gave Brookes an early lead he never relinquished and he went on to win the frame 68-45 and the match 3-1.

Scott Raper stormed to a 4-0 victory over Richard Binns to claim the coveted Leeds City Championship singles title…

A large crowd gathered on a night that was billed to be a close fought, high quality match which turned out to be a pretty much one-sided affair.. Raper starting on the front foot fired a quick fire 52 break, before eventually losing position,. Binns had chances to get back into the frame, but a loose shot allowed Raper to clear the colours and take the first frame.

Second was a scrappier frame, neither player taking their chances as such, but again Raper potting the more decisive balls to take a 2-0.

The next frame before the interval was huge, 3-0 and there was no way back for Binns, 2-1 and it was game on again. Binns never looked like the player we are used to seeing and again many missed opportunities. Raper potting some good balls now, easing to take the third frame to lead 3-0 at the internal.

So, with Binns trailing 3-0 it was a enormous mountain to climb and although he got his potting arm going, again breaking down when it looked like a big break was looking. As it went down to the colours it was Raper now with the chance to take the title and needed no second invitation calmly clearing down to the black to claim the title..

Liam Pullen and Tony Massey defeated Gary Stead and Gerry Walton 293-202 in last nights Stan Brooke Pairs final.
The first frame was fairly uneventful, Stead/Walton (receiving 50 start per frame) winning 79-60 to take a 19 point lead into the second game. Pullen/Massey started the second game well and amassed 32 points without reply to close the gap. With the match seemingly in the balance at this point, Liam Pullen then stepped up and produced a flawless 112 clearance to win the frame 144-50 and put his side in a seemingly unassailable lead of 75 points going into the final frame. Then for good measure he opened the third frame with a break of 48 (6 reds, 6 blacks) before breaking down on what looked like being another sizeable break. At this point the match was effectively over with Pullen/ Massey ahead by 73 on aggregate with a possible 99 points remaining. The third frame itself was fairly close, ending in an 89-73 win for the NSC pair but all the damage had been done in the dramatic second game, in which the title holders had scored 144 points without reply.

So congratulations to Pullen/Massey on retaining the title they won last year. Thanks to the NSC and to Ken Symons for officiating.

James Pears defeated Connor O'Carroll 229-197 in todays Stan Brooke Singles final.
In a match played in tremendous spirit it was Connor who settled first. Receiving 20 points per frame he raced into a 50 point lead with some lovely individual pots, but James fought back and when Connor sank the final Black he had won the first frame by just 15 points.
In the second frame it was James's turn to settle into the match and he ended up winning it by 42 points to give himself a 27 point lead going into the final frame.
As you would expect the third frame was a close, tense affair with both players palying some excellent safety shots.
With one red left James had a slight lead, which coupled with his 27 point advantage meant Connor needed all the balls to win. He took the last red and a black to give himself a chance on the colours, but James used all his experience to keep the frame tight, and when he potted the brown Connor needed a snooker. Finally a much relieved James potted the blue and a few shots later added the pink to seal a hard fought victory. It was a terrific final with a great atmosphere helped by the large Harehills Liberal contingent who had shown up in force to support Connor.

So congratulations to James and thanks as usual to the NSC for use of the match table and especially to referee Andy Kitson who again had stepped in at short notice.

This coming Friday (15th) will see Scott Raper v Richard Binns battle it out in the Leeds City Championship Singles Final at NSC, followed by a presentation of all the Leeds City Championship competitions.

Richard Binns defeated NSC's Isa Ishtiaq 4-2 in last nights Len Lee Invitation final.

A run of 30 helped Binns take the first frame before Ishtiaq hit back with a nicely crafted 56 break to level at 1-1. Binns took the next (36 break) and looked to be going 3-1 up before missing a simple black which would have left his opponent needing a snooker on the colours. A couple of shots later Ishtiaq fluked the yellow and cleared the colours to draw level again at 2-2. Unpeturbed Binns took the next (47 break) and despite Ishtiaq having a run of 38 in the sixth frame, Binns wrapped up the match 4-2 to keep the title he has now won three times in a row.

Binns is in action again on Friday in the Leeds Snooker singles final.

The final of the Sykes Cup between Lee Brookes (Garforth WMC) and Steven Hirst (Belle Isle WMC) will take place on Thursday 21st July at NSC

The last match of the season, the Windsor Trophy final, will take place at Belle Isle WMC on Wednesday 27th July.
